Job summary

Auburn University’s Department of Physics seeks an Engineer Associate to support experimental research activities and lab facilities in the Leach Science Center. The role involves operating, maintaining, and developing laboratory equipment, and collaborating with faculty, staff, and students on safe engineering solutions.

The position emphasizes assisting with equipment design, prototype development, and safety-focused practices across diverse research projects within the department.

Qualifications

• Candidate must have formal education in a physics/engineering related field and relevant experience.
• Ability to support operation, maintenance, and development of lab equipment.
• Instruction to safely manage lab spaces and equipment

Responsibilities

• Support operation, maintenance, and upkeep of departmental research equipment including pelletron accelerator and pool source irradiator.
• Provide technical support for experimental laboratory spaces in the Leach Science Center.
• Advise faculty, staff, and students on lab design, equipment modification, and prototype development with emphasis on safety.
• Provide engineering support for diverse research activities involving specialized equipment and facilities.
• Design and/or fabricate equipment and materials using engineering practices and principles.
• Assist with procurement, organization, and maintenance of laboratory supplies and equipment.
• Act as primary contact with College of Science and Mathematics building manager and Auburn facilities management for safety and maintenance oversight.
