We are a growing full-service specialty sub-contractor and are proud to have provided laboratory furniture systems to some of the leading university, biotech, government, corporate, industrial, and medical research facilities in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Carolinas.

Opportunity

New England Lab is seeking a Lab Drafter for our Woburn, MA office. Our engineering team plays a key role in each project and overall company success. This position requires attention to detail, consistency, and precision in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. It is a full-time, hourly role reporting to the Engineering Manager, with core hours from 8 am to 5 pm, M-F, and potential overtime. Little to no travel is expected.

Role

We are looking for an AutoCAD Drafter/Designer responsible for developing floor plans, elevations, sections, and details of laboratory casework and furniture systems using AutoCAD. You will collaborate closely with Estimating and Project Management teams to ensure accurate and comprehensive drawings. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Preparing detailed floor plans, elevations, sections, and furniture layouts for client approval and fabrication.
  2. Coordinating with team members to ensure quality and adherence to client specifications.
  3. Assisting Project Managers with updates and modifications to drawings.
  4. Working with vendors to select appropriate products for projects.
  5. Developing and training new team members.
  6. Managing project schedules effectively.
  7. Organizing and maintaining project documentation.
  8. Adapting to schedule changes promptly.
  9. Ensuring project scope aligns with estimated costs.
  10. Communicating proactively about product or schedule concerns across departments.

Skills & Requirements

  • Technical Diploma or Associate's degree required; Bachelor's preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience with AutoCAD (2018 or later) creating detailed shop or architectural drawings.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word).
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to visualize 3D dimensions.
  • Experience with Revit, SketchUp, and BIM is a plus.
  • Professional communication skills via phone and email.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a team environment.
  • Experience with cabinetry, millwork, or construction is advantageous.
