Job summary

Merieux NutriSciences - North America in Salida, CA is seeking a Lab Director to own and operate a high‑performing laboratory, driving science, quality and client service. This role requires entrepreneurial leadership, integrity and the ability to motivate teams while delivering accurate, timely results and ensuring safety, quality and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of microbiology and/or chemistry in food science.
• General knowledge of business finance, budgeting, sales, and marketing to gain and retain customers.
• Computer skills to track laboratory information and produce management documents.
• Knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Strong oral and written communication essential for customer contact.
• Previous supervisory experience needed to ensure smooth laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the laboratory business and develop a strategic plan to meet goals.
• Manage budget development, short/long term financial goals, and P&L.
• Communicate goals and accountability across all workforce levels.
• Provide technical expertise to clients by interpreting laboratory data and offering solutions.
• Lead and coach staff to promote engagement, career paths, and succession planning.
• Ensure compliance with internal quality systems and external audits.
