Job summary

WH Wheeling Hospital Inc. is seeking a Laboratory Clerk/Phlebotomy Assistant to support laboratory testing and workflow. The role performs clerical duties, processes orders, and assists in specimen handling within the laboratory.

Strong communication and computer skills are essential to coordinate with nursing units, physicians, and satellite labs. The position involves direct phlebotomy support for STAT/now collections and ensures timely reporting of results.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Process and order patient/physician orders according to procedure manual.
• Answer telephones in a friendly and caring manner.
• Transfer calls to appropriate associates or departments.
• Communicate with satellite labs and drawing stations as needed.
• Train and guide new laboratory associates.
• Direct phlebotomy team for STAT/now collections.
• Prepare, sort and deliver patient reports to physician offices.
• Faxes reports to physicians’ offices and communicates test statuses.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate to the adolescent, adult, geriatric patient per the established age-specific standard.8. Operates pneumatic chutes and answers them in a timely manner.9. Operates the telephone so not to prolong callers' waiting period and/or lose the call.10. Operates HIS and LIS computer systems according to the procedure manual.11. Prepares, sorts, and delivers patient reports to physician office boxes.12. Faxes reports to physicians' offices.13. Telephones in and outpatient results of critical values, including "Read Back", as needed by the technicians.14. Receives specimens into Lab Computer System.15. Delivers appropriate specimens to appropriate department.16. Replenishes outreach client supplies when needed.17. Inventory and order all office supplies.18. Inventory and order all computer system supplies.19. Orders tests on in and outpatients according to manual orders received.20. Communicates status of reports with nursing units and physician offices as appropriate.21. Wears task appropriate protective apparel.22.
