Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University’s Engineered Morphogenesis Group seeks a Laboratory Automation Engineer (Part-Time / Intern, 20 hours/week) to advance automated workflows for high-throughput cell and organoid culture in CMU’s Cloud Lab. The role blends robotics, tissue engineering, and data-driven optimization in a collaborative setting on the Pittsburgh campus.

The ideal candidate is pursuing or recently completed an MS in CS, BME, or ME, with experience in machine learning models and lab

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in constructing machine learning models for describing and predicting experimental outcomes.
  • Prior experience in laboratory automation for life sciences is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience with cell and tissue culture is desirable but not required.
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed an MS degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Learn the fundamentals of cell and organoid culture.
  • Learn and use automation technologies available in the Cloud Lab, including hardware and software systems.
  • Integrate automation technologies into existing workflows with emphasis on throughput and reproducibility.
  • Synthesize and analyze data from automated experiments to inform workflow improvements.
  • Collaborate with cell culture teams to develop and integrate automated workflows.
