Job summary

iORGANBIO invites applications for a Process & Automation Engineer to design, automate, and scale cell culture and molecular biology workflows that bridge biology, robotics, and software. This on-site role in Morrisville, NC partners with biologists, hardware and software developers, AI scientists, and operations staff to build robust, scalable processes for tissue generation at scale.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years in process development, lab automation, or bioprocess engineering roles; biotech, cell therapy, or advanced therapeutics preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, including stem cells (iPSC/ESC) and differentiation workflows.
  • Proficiency with core molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid extraction, PCR/qPCR, sequencing prep, immunoassays).
  • Experience with laboratory automation platforms (liquid handlers, robotic arms, automated incubators, plate readers) and scripting for automation (Python).

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and iterate automated workflows for cell culture, stem cell differentiation, and tissue maturation.
  • Translate manual bench protocols into robust automated processes on liquid handlers, robotics, and bioreactor systems.
  • Develop and automate molecular biology workflows (sample prep, nucleic acid extraction, sequencing prep, QC assays).
  • Program and operate automation platforms; develop scripts, APIs, and UIs to run differentiation campaigns.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to implement closed-loop process control, machine vision, and real-time monitoring.
