Job summary

Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital is seeking a Phlebotomy & Laboratory Support role to assist with specimen collection and clerical duties on a Monday–Friday schedule.

The position supports phlebotomy across outpatient and in-lab settings, with emphasis on specimen integrity and timely processing. Located on the hospital campus in a Medical Office Building suite with BJCMG, this role offers a collaborative outpatient environment and clear opportunities to contribute to patient care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate's degree preferred.
• 2–5 years experience preferred; supervisor experience beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy with proper patient identification and specimen collection.
• Sort and process specimens received by the laboratory.
• Coordinate tasks to meet turnaround times and STAT orders.
• May assist with registration, inventory maintenance, and other duties as assigned.

This position focuses on specimen processing, clerical responsibilities, and phlebotomy support as needed.

This role is located on Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital's campus in a Medical Office Building suite alongside BJC Medical Group (BJCMG), offering a collaborative outpatient healthcare environment.

Position Details

• 40 hours per week
• Schedule: Monday through Friday
• Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• No weekends
• No holidays

Overview

Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital proudly serves the health care needs of families in St. Charles, Lincoln and Warren counties. The 102-bed community hospital provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services including the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital, the Breast Health and Women’s Center, the Cardiology Center, the Neurosurgery Center and the Outpatient Surgery and Endoscopy Center.

Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital is an Accredited Chest Pain Center and carries a Level II stroke certification. Additionally, the hospital’s medical office building houses offices for specialists in primary care, cardiology, obstetrics, dermatology, surgery and pulmonology. Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital also offers outpatient services including physical therapy, a sleep lab, and cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation.

At Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital, every decision is made in the best interest of patients and families. The Laboratory Departments provides inpatient and outpatient services.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose: Perform specimen collection, specimen handling and clerical duties. Experienced in phlebotomy and proficient in performing additional tasks such as central processing duties, in-office phlebotomy, or inventory management.

Responsibilities

• Interpret physician orders and order tests in appropriate system.
• Perform phlebotomy, positive patient identification, and positive patient interaction, proper collection and specimen integrity. May work in outpatient lab, in physician office, or off campus patient service center.
• Sort and process specimens received by the laboratory and proficiently handle all specimens received in the lab.
• Coordinates a simultaneous series of tasks accurately, including STAT orders and fluctuation in workload, prioritizing work to complete within scheduled hours and established turnaround times.
• May perform registration, inventory maintenance, and other duties as assigned.
