Job summary

Hill College in Texas seeks a part-time Lab Assistant for Welding to support instructors and the Welding Program Coordinator across the Hill County Campus and the Cleburne Technical Center.

You will set up equipment, assist in labs, manage tools and consumables, and ensure safe, organized work areas. A high school diploma is required; associate degree or industry certifications are preferred. Evening hours may be required.

  • Some work experience in welding field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist instructors in the classroom/lab.
  • Set up and maintain work areas, shops, labs, and equipment in safe condition.
  • Maintain inventory of consumables.
  • Label, distribute, track, collect and place tools used by students.
  • Inventory and maintain tools for the welding program.
  • Collaborate with faculty and Welding Coordinator; travel between campuses as needed.
  • Support a welcoming and safe environment.

Job Description: Lab Assistant, Welding

Reports To: Welding Instructor

Pay Classification: (PT) $15-$25/hour

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Summary: Assists in the teaching and facilitation of welding labs. Supports the instructors and Welding Program Coordinator in maintaining the welding labs on both the Hill County and Johnson County campuses. The assistant will help instructors prepare the instructional area by setting up necessary equipment and may assist the instructor in the classroom or lab environment.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Associate degree and industry certifications.

Experience: Some work experience in the welding field.

Core Duties
  • Assist instructors in the classroom/lab.
  • Acts as a resource for instructional and curricular issues.
  • Sets up and maintains work area, shops, labs, and/or equipment in safe and sound condition.
  • Maintains the inventory of consumables.
  • Responsible for the labeling, distribution, tracking, collection, and proper placement of tools used by students.
  • Responsible for the inventory and maintenance of the tools used for the welding program.
  • Working knowledge of Hill College vision, mission, values, and Code of Conduct.
  • Working knowledge of the policies and procedures of Hill College.

Physical Requirements

Medium work; exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. The use of arm and or leg controls requires exertion of force greater than that for sedentary work.

Ability to work in a hot environment for the duration of scheduled lab time.
