Job summary

Asante in Medford, OR is seeking a Lab Assistant/Specimen Processor to receive and process laboratory specimens in accordance with regulatory and SOPs. The role supports histology, cytology and transcription workflows, including slide preparation, staining, labeling, and case prep.

This 0.9 FTE position requires a high school diploma, 1 year of lab or related healthcare experience, good organization and communication, and willingness to work a rotating schedule including every 3rd weekend with

Responsibilities

• Receive and process laboratory specimens following regulatory requirements and SOPs.
• Support histology, cytology, and transcriptionist workflows including slide prep, staining, and labeling.
• Perform pathology report transcription, case preparation, and report distribution as needed.
• Maintain accurate order entry and ensure high-quality laboratory results.

Additional Position Details:

FTE: 0.9 | Full Time | Variable Hours/Variable Days

Schedule:

Cover every 3rd weekend from 6:30am to 3:00pm. Weekday will vary between 10:00am - 6:30pm, 12:00pm - 8:30pm, and 2:00pm - 10:30pm

Salary Range:

$19.27 - $26.50

Shift Differentials

• $1.27 extra for working between 3:00pm - 11:00pm
• $2.15 extra for working between 11:01pm and 7:00am
• $1.10 extra for working weekends

Position Summary

The Lab Assistant/Specimen Processor contributes to the overall patient experience by using organizational and communication skills to receive and process laboratory specimens as specified by regulatory requirements and laboratory standard operating procedures. This is done through assessing requisition dates, specimen adequacy and acceptability to ensure accurate order entry and high-quality laboratory results.

In the Pathology Lab specifically, you will also support histology, cytology, and transcriptionist workflows. Some duties include but are not limited to assisting with slide preparation, staining, cover slipping, and labeling. You will also perform transcriptionist related duties including pathology report transcription, case preparation, document review and report distribution.

Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate as needed for the position is required
• Prior education or demonstrated knowledge in medical terminology

Experience

• 1 year of laboratory experience or a combination of education and or related experience in a healthcare setting providing knowledge of medical terminology is required
• Specimen processing experience including esoteric reference lab specimen handling and packaging, preferred
• Phlebotomy experience and/or knowledge of laboratory tests and /or laboratory ordering processes, preferred
• College courses/credits toward advanced degree, especially science course work, preferred
• Data entry, keyboarding experience and computer proficiency, preferred

Licensure/Certifications

• Medical Laboratory Assistant through the Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), preferred

Working Conditions

• This position requires the ability to stand/walk or lift/handle/carry between 20 and 50 pounds as a regular part of your work duties.
