Job summary

Quest Diagnostics in Tampa, FL is seeking a Lab Assistant (Pre-Analytical Assistant I) for the Tuesday to Saturday early shift (2:00 AM to 10:30 AM). The role provides starting pay of $18.33 per hour plus optional shift differential depending on hours worked on second or third shift.

The position supports the Technical Operations Department with specimen processing, data entry, and adherence to compliance standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
• Medical background preferred.
• Minimal data entry skills required.

Responsibilities

• Learn duties of Pre-Analytical Assistant I and how Tech Ops and Specimen Processing interact.
• Identify specimen issues and ensure timely resolution and proper handling.
• Understand test ordering compliance and use translation tables and directory of services.
• Meet quality and production standards within 6 months of training.
• Complete required documentation clearly and on time.
• Report to work on time and support the department during absences.
• Learn additional functions to progress to the next level.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay range: $18.33+ per hour; employee may be eligible to receive shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift. Additional details on shift differential will be provided if an offer is extended.

Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Pre-Analytical Assistant I is responsible for general support functions within the Technical Operations Department.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates an ability to learn the job duties assigned to the Pre-Analytical AssistantI, anddevelops an understanding of how all the functions in Tech Ops and Specimen Processing work together and how they impactTechnicaldepartments and result quality.
• Identifies problems with specimen types, missing information, etc.,with regard tosorting, racking, centrifuging, delivery, and storage of specimens;is able toresolve or forward information in support of timely problem resolution.
• Demonstrates an understanding of compliance policies related to test ordering, which requires developing ability to research test order information on translation tables, computer systems, and the directory of services.
• Meets quality and productionstandards within 6 months of completing training.
• Completes all required written documentation such that it is understandable to others, legible and within the assigned time frame.
• Reports to work ontime, andfollows attendance guidelines; supports the department's performance in the event of coworker absences.
• Learns additional functions within Tech Ops and Specimen Processing to allow timely progression to the next level.

Qualifications

Previous experience in a production environment
