Job summary

Quest Diagnostics seeks a Pre-Analytical Assistant I in Teterboro, NJ, working 11:00 PM–7:30 AM with rotational weekends. The role supports the Technical Operations Department, handling specimen processing tasks that impact overall test quality.

Responsibilities include learning duties, resolving specimen-related issues, and ensuring compliance with test ordering procedures. Opportunities for career progression exist within Tech Ops.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required).
  • Previous experience in a production environment.
  • Medical background preferred which includes medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
  • Minimal data entry skills.

Responsibilities

  • Learns job duties in Pre-Analytical Assistant I and how Tech Ops and Specimen Processing interact and impact quality.
  • Identifies problems with specimen types or missing information related to sorting, racking, centrifuging, delivery, and storage; resolves or forwards for timely resolution.
  • Ensures compliance with test ordering policies by researching information in translation tables, computer systems, and the directory of services.
  • Meets quality and production standards within 6 months of training.
  • Documents work clearly and promptly for others to understand and review.

Job Description
Pre-Analytical Assistant I - Teterboro, NJ, Monday to Friday, 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with rotational weekends

Pre-Analytical Assistant I is responsible for general support functions within the Technical Operations Department.

Pay range: $17.65 - $19.36 / hour

Employee may be eligible to receive shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift. Additional details on shift differential will be provided if an offer is extended.

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates an ability to learn the job duties assigned to the Pre-Analytical Assistant I, and develops an understanding of how all the functions in Tech Ops and Specimen Processing work together and how they impact Technical departments and result quality.
  • Identifies problems with specimen types, missing information, etc., with regard to sorting, racking, centrifuging, delivery, and storage of specimens; is able to resolve or forward information in support of timely problem resolution.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of compliance policies related to test ordering, which requires developing ability to research test order information on translation tables, computer systems, and the directory of services.
  • Meets quality and production standards within 6 months of completing training.
  • Completes all required written documentation such that it is understandable to others, legible and within the assigned time frame.
  • Reports to work on time, and follows attendance guidelines; supports the department's performance in the event of coworker absences.
  • Learns additional functions within Tech Ops and Specimen Processing to allow timely progression to the next level.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. This is not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities, but rather a general description of work performed by the position.
