Position Overview

The Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist performs phlebotomy and specimen collection, utilizing Lab Information System (LIS) and Hospital Information System (HIS) for various functions including patient registration, order entry, result lookup, and report generation. Responsibilities include processing specimens for diagnostic testing, referral testing, and sorting specimen drop-offs according to insurance requirements, ensuring accurate registration of specimens.

Qualifications

• High School/GED (required)
• Phlebotomy Certification (preferred)
• 1 year phlebotomy experience (preferred)
• Basic phlebotomy training (preferred)

Essential Job Functions

• Performs specimen collection procedures
• Processes and dispatches specimens and body fluids
• Enters orders and performs accessioning, centrifuging, and aliquoting of samples
• Generates reports and registers patients
• Provides basic customer service
• Maintains inventory levels and stocks supplies
• In Microbiology department, sets up cultures and performs gram stains as needed
• Performs duties as a phlebotomist when required
