Job summary

MercyOne Dubuque is seeking a Lab Assistant to support multiple laboratory departments by assisting in the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of tests essential for patient diagnosis and treatment.

The role includes venipunctures, specimen labeling, LIS data entry, and adherence to safety and quality standards in a Magnet-designated hospital with a broad spectrum of services.

Qualifications

• Laboratory experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems quickly.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipunctures, finger sticks and heel sticks per patient age with proper collection.
• Accepts specimens and requisitions and manages add-on orders per protocol.
• Identifies patients and specimens with two identifiers and labels correctly.
• Registers and logs specimens in LIS and ensures data accuracy.
• Performs specimen processing and documentation per laboratory procedures.
• Resolves problematic specimens and test orders with staff collaboration.
• Follows safety, infection control and chemical-handling procedures.
• Operates LIS to support data entry and workflow management.
• Restocks supplies and participates in department projects as assigned.
