Job summary

The Hospitals of Providence - East Campus Hospital in El Paso, TX is seeking a Laboratory Assistant II to perform routine technical and clerical tasks. This includes venipuncture, specimen receipt, and distribution of laboratory specimens, as well as waived CLIA testing.

This per diem role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, 1 year of lab experience or phlebotomy training, and phlebotomy certification where required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a phlebotomy program preferred.
• Phlebotomy certification required where state law requires.
• Basic lab computer/LIS experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture, specimen receipt and distribution.
• Associates in phlebotomy duties and billing as needed.
• Performs waived CLIA testing and assists in microbiology processing.

The Laboratory Assistant II performs routine technical and clerical functions. Performs venipuncture, specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens; will perform CLIA waived laboratory tests, as requested.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine technical and clerical functions to include specimen registration and billing.
• Performs specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens.
• Performs phlebotomy duties as assigned.
• Will perform waived testing, and assist in microbiology processing and plating specimens, as requested.

Qualifications

Education:

• Required: High school diploma or equivalent
• Preferred: Completion of a phlebotomy program

Experience:

• Required: 1 year of laboratory experience and/or completion of a formal phlebotomy training program
• Preferred: In addition to above, basic laboratory computer/lab information system experience

Certifications:

• Required: Phlebotomy certification where State law requires
• Preferred: Completion of formal phlebotomy training program and/or national phlebotomy certification through ASCP, ANP, ASPT or similar
