Responsibilities

The Laboratory Assistant will adhere to CLIA guidelines and California Business and Professions Codes (bpc: 1212, 1269). Unlicensed personnel ('aides') may not perform tests involving quantitative measurements, mathematical calculations, instrument calibration, or quality control review without direct supervision by a licensed CLS or equivalent. Responsibilities include:

  1. Performing computer entry, filing, and clerical duties
  2. Greeting patients and visitors politely
  3. Demonstrating good communication skills
  4. Understanding test terminology
  5. Knowledge of phlebotomy and specimen collection equipment for all age groups
  6. Processing specimens across various laboratory departments
  7. Preparing specimens for reference labs
  8. Stocking and ordering supplies
  9. Maintaining cleanliness of storage and collection areas
  10. Processing specimens on laboratory instruments per policies
  11. With proper training, performing instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, quality control, primary culture inoculations, slide staining, and subculturing
  12. Additional tasks as assigned by department management
  13. Assisting in Pathology with training and evaluation
  14. Performing runner duties
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Minimum 1-year clinical laboratory experience preferred
  • State certification as CPT I or CPT II if applicable
  • Current BCLS (AHA) certification preferred

The role offers a compensation range of $21.00 to $22.80 per hour. The final offer depends on factors such as experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
