Department Summary

The UCLA Department of Psychology is renowned for its excellence in research, teaching, and service. It has a faculty of over 60 ladder rank members, making it one of the top psychology departments in the nation. The undergraduate program is the largest in the Division of Life Sciences and UCLA College, with over 4,700 students enrolled across Psychology, Psychobiology, and Cognitive Science majors. The department also offers a comprehensive Ph.D. program with eight areas of study, serving approximately 200 graduate students.

Position Summary

The lab assistant will support behavioral and electrophysiological studies of rodent decision-making and oversee general lab operations in the Wikenheiser laboratory. Responsibilities include assisting with routine animal care, experimental data collection, data analysis, and supervising undergraduate research assistants within the lab.

Salary & Compensation

Qualifications

• At least one year of experience handling and caring for rats in a behavioral neuroscience lab, including proficiency with behavioral testing and IP injections. (Required)
• Experience with in vivo electrophysiological techniques in awake, behaving rats. (Required)
• Experience designing and validating rodent tasks modeling human mental illnesses, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder. (Required)
• Experience working in laboratory research settings. (Required)
• Proficiency in Matlab and Python for behavioral and electrophysiological data analysis. (Required)
• Awareness of or willingness to learn animal, lab, and biosafety regulatory procedures. (Required)
• Excellent organization and communication skills demonstrating sensitivity, empathy, and respect for colleagues. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

• Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Neuroscience or related field, or equivalent experience. (Required)
