Job summary

Post University in Waterbury, CT seeks a Lab Assistant (Student Worker) to support the Life and Physical Sciences Department in daily laboratory operations. The role offers a hands-on opportunity to assist instructors and fellow students while gaining practical lab experience.

The position requires partial-year commitment for the 2026-2027 academic year, approximately 10 hours per week, at minimum wage. Student workers must be enrolled in related science courses and able to work independently on

Qualifications

• Complete at least one high school laboratory science course.
• Be currently enrolled in a college laboratory science course; completion preferred.
• Be reliable, responsible, and able to work independently.
• Be comfortable handling laboratory glassware and equipment.
• Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and fellow student assistants.

Responsibilities

• Assist faculty and lab instructors with preparing materials and setting up laboratory and field activities.
• Clean and organize laboratory equipment, glassware, and workspaces.
• Help maintain an efficient and safe laboratory environment.
• Complete other department-related tasks as assigned.

Supervisor: Laura Bailey, Associate Program Chair of Life and Physical Sciences & Lab Manager
Hours: Approximately 10 hours per week
Pay: Minimum Wage
Duration: Academic Year 2026-2027 (year-round opportunity)

About the Role

As a Lab Assistant, you'll help support the daily operations of the Life and Physical Sciences Department (LPSD). This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience working in a laboratory environment while supporting faculty, instructors, and fellow students.

What You’ll Do

• Assist faculty and lab instructors with preparing materials and setting up laboratory and field activities
• Clean and organize laboratory equipment, glassware, and workspaces
• Help maintain an efficient and safe laboratory environment
• Complete other department-related tasks as assigned

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should:

• Have completed at least one high school laboratory science course
• Be currently enrolled in a college laboratory science course (completion of a college lab course is preferred)
• Be reliable, responsible, and able to work independently
• Be comfortable handling laboratory glassware and equipment
• Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and fellow student assistants
• Preferably be majoring in a laboratory science program at Post University (Biology minors are also encouraged to apply)
