Job summary

Holyoke Medical Center Laboratory is seeking an entry-level Laboratory Assistant to support staff, clinicians and patients in a busy hospital lab. The role involves registering and receiving specimens, data entry, preparing samples and performing COVID-19/Flu/Strep molecular testing.

This position offers per-diem shifts and varied hours in a stand-alone hospital setting. Ideal applicants will have a High School Diploma; a Bachelor's in Biology, Microbiology or Health Science is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; healthcare experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology or Health Science preferred.
• Previous healthcare or clinical lab experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Register and receive specimens and enter data into the system.
• Prepare samples for analysis and perform molecular testing (COVID-19/Flu/Strep).
• Transport specimens to other labs and clinical departments.
• Provide customer service and support to clinical staff; answer phones.
• Adhere to laboratory regulations and SOPs; ensure testing accuracy.

Holyoke Medical Center Laboratory has an exciting entry level position available for applicantsinterested in diagnostic medicine.The applicant must share a passion for our lab mission statement,which is working collaboratively to ensure quality results for every patient, every time. The jobresponsibilities are toassist laboratory staff, clinical staff and patients in diverse roles within theclinical laboratory. The Laboratory Assistant will register and receive specimens, enter specimendata into a software system, prepare samples for further laboratory analysis, performCOVID-19 /Flu/Strep molecular testing, transport specimens to other labs and clinical departments.Responsibilities include: customer service, training, answering phones, entering precise andaccurate data, adherence to laboratory regulations and performance of testing according to standardoperating success.

REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma and previous work experience required.Bachelor’s degree in Biology,Microbiology or Health Science preferred. Previousexperience in a healthcare setting or medical laboratory experience is strongly preferred.
