Job summary

CommonSpirit Medical Group – Glenwood in Southeast Tennessee is seeking a Lab Assistant to support diagnostic workflows by collecting, preparing, and processing specimens (blood, urine, tissue) with accuracy and a commitment to patient care.

You will assemble equipment, verify patient identity, draw blood, and ensure proper documentation, plus coordinate specimen transfer to reference labs when required; this role rewards meticulous attention to detail and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• High School graduate upon hire.
• Basic Life Support - CPR within 30 days.
• Phlebotomy training completion preferred.
• Certified Phlebotomy Technician preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assemble equipment such as tourniquets, needles, blood collection devices and supplies for tests.
• Verify or record patient identity before procedures.
• Draw blood samples, prepare specimens, and document records.
• Send specimens to reference laboratories as needed.
• Maintain documentation per quality assurance, including logs and checklists.
• Identify issues affecting test performance and report to supervisor.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Lab Assistant at CommonSpirit Medical Group - Primary Care - Glenwood, you will play a crucial role in solving diagnostic mysteries, bringing us one step closer to effectively treating patient illnesses and injuries.

Every day you will utilize your expertise and our advanced technology to precisely collect, prepare, and process a diverse range of patient specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for various diagnostic tests.

To be successful in this role, you will possess a foundational understanding of laboratory procedures, demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, and maintain an eager commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

• Assemble equipment, such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray, according to requirements for specified tests or procedures.
• Verify or record identity of patient or donor.
• Draw and collect blood samples from patients, verifies records and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis. May prick finger to draw blood.
• Send specimens to reference laboratories for any testing not performed in house.
• Maintain proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program including accessioning logs, equipment records and checklists.
• Identify problems which may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and take appropriate action, including supervisor notification.

• Vocational School Grad Graduate from accredited Phlebotomy training program and 1 year related experience, upon hire
• Certified Phlebotomy Technician, upon hire
