Job summary

Hillsborough Community College seeks a Laboratory Support role to monitor and coordinate activities of assigned laboratories, ensuring safe, effective lab operations and classroom readiness.

The position assists faculty and students with equipment use, sets up labs for class, maintains inventory, and supports safety practices across multiple labs and instructors.

Qualifications

• Requires at least an Associate’s Degree or two-year college with 60 undergraduate hours.
• Minimum one year of related laboratory work experience.
• Ability to support multiple labs and maintain safety and organization.

Responsibilities

• Monitors and coordinates the activities of and provides support and assistance to assigned laboratories to enable effective and safe lab operations.
• Assists and supports faculty and students regarding the use of equipment and lab procedures; sets up and takes down lab for class; cleans and stocks materials.
• Provides necessary materials and equipment for effective laboratory instruction and experiments; assists faculty with lab materials and lab tests preparation.
• Monitors and coordinates lab activities; trains and directs part-time lab technicians and student assistants.
• Maintains safe and clean working conditions in the lab.
• Keeps inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Prepares requisitions for service, maintenance and supplies as needed.
• Performs similar and related duties as assigned

Education

Associate’s Degree or two-year College equivalent

Bachelor’s Degree or pursuing Bachelor’s in science

Job description

Hiring Compensation Range:

$20.35 to $22.38 per hour depending on qualifications.

Job Summary:

Job Duties:

• Monitors and coordinates the activities of and provides support and assistance to assigned laboratories to enable effective and safe lab operations.


• Assists and supports faculty and students regarding appropriate use of equipment and lab procedures; troubleshoots problems. If appropriate, sets-up and takes down lab for class. Cleans and stocks materials.


• Provides necessary materials and equipment required for effective laboratory instruction and experiments. Assists faculty with the preparation of lab materials and lab tests.


• Monitors and coordinates lab activities; trains and/or provides direction to part-time lab technicians and student assistants.


• Maintains safe and clean working conditions in the lab.


• Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.


• Maintains lab equipment as needed; prepares requisitions for service, maintenance and supplies as needed.


• Performs similar and related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The position requires at least an Associate’s Degree or two-year College equivalent (at least 60 undergraduate hours) and at least one year of prior-related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree or Bachelor’s in a science-related field preferred.


• Strong foundation in Physics is highly desirable to effectively support the primary responsibilities of this role.


• Familiarity with biological laboratory environments, procedures, and safety practices.


• Basic knowledge of Astronomy, Earth science, and Environmental Science concepts is preferred.


• Ability to work across multiple scientific disciplines and support additional labs when needed.


• Experience using scientific instrumentation and equipment across physical and life science in a laboratory settings is a plus.
