Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Veterinary Technician to provide animal care for laboratory animals and assist the veterinary team. You will perform rounds, monitor health, collect samples, and help document clinical cases within the Balazs Laboratory at the Ragon Institute.

This role requires after-hours, rotating weekend and holiday work as needed, with opportunities to contribute to translational science and immunology research in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Basic skills and animal care.
• Excellent time management skills.
• Ability to find and abide by institutional SOPs and policies; works with moderate supervision.
• Knowledge of basic vet procedures, sample collection, and basic treatments.
• Works with close supervision.

Responsibilities

• Be knowledgeable in the daily care and husbandry for laboratory animals, including feeding, watering, cleaning cages, and maintaining appropriate living environments.
• Prep for trainings and procedures, schedule and conduct basic technical skill trainings for investigators and peers as needed.
• Perform basic animal restraint, minimize stress, and ensure the safety of both animals and personnel.
• Perform regular health checks and observations to identify signs of illness or distress in the animals, promptly reporting any concerns to the veterinary team.
• Take vital signs and perform a general examination to assess overall health.
• Assist veterinary staff with routine health assessments, medical treatments, and procedures for laboratory animals.
• Perform drug calculations and administer medications.
• Maintains animal records by documenting animal conditions, reactions, and changes, updating the database.
• Ensure compliance with all institutional, regulatory, and ethical guidelines governing animal research and welfare.
