Job summary

The University of California, Berkeley is seeking an Animal Technician to support the Office of Laboratory Animal Care. You will perform routine husbandry, cage cleaning, feeding, and monitoring of laboratory animals, following NIH/USDA guidelines.

This full-time, non-exempt position requires safety training, the ability to lift heavy supplies, and the operation of cage washers and sterilizers under supervision.

Qualifications

• Must maintain hygienic animal care practices.
• Ability to follow NIH, OSHA, USDA and AWA guidelines.
• Learn facility SOPs and Guidelines and implement them.
• Lift up to 50 pounds and move cage racks.
• Basic computer skills to log reports and trainings.
• Euthanasia of rodents under supervision by veterinary staff.

Responsibilities

• Operate cage washer for cleaning and sanitizing cages.
• Sterilize caging and equipment.
• Dispose of animal bedding and waste.
• Maintain animal care areas and logs.
• Perform routine animal husbandry and report health concerns.
• Attend training and complete safety modules.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
