Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle is seeking an Animal Technician I to perform routine animal husbandry and support operations under supervision. This entry-level role requires learning procedures, maintaining clean animal housing, and assisting veterinary staff as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Good verbal and written English communication skills.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
• Ability to lift and move 50 lbs and perform sustained physical activity.
• Ability to wear PPE including scrubs, gloves, shoe covers, gowns, ear protection, mask and eye protection.
• Associates Degree preferred; 6 months related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Animal Care: learn to provide daily care for small animal species according to SOPs.
• Husbandry Operations: master cage changing and operate washers, water bottle fillers, and autoclaves under supervision.
• Sanitation Operations: perform housekeeping and sanitation in animal housing areas.
• Researcher Support: communicate with research staff via verbal, written, or electronic means.
• Regulatory and safety: learn safety regulations for biomedical research.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
