Job summary

Marshall Medical Centers in Alabama seeks a Laboratory Clerk under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager to perform clerical duties including printing, charting, mailing, faxing and filing of reports, and accessioning Pathology/Cytology specimens. The role also involves answering calls, registering patients, and order entry tasks within the lab system.

Qualifications

• Prefer high school diploma or equivalent (GED acceptable).
• 1 to 2 months on-the-job training under supervision is usual for learned techniques.
• Competency in laboratory procedures as appropriate.
• Good general condition.
• Verbal ability to communicate with patients and clientele.
• Numerical ability to calculate by formula.
• Form perception and finger dexterity to handle paperwork and keyboards.
• Dependable.

Responsibilities

• Receives incoming calls and disperses to appropriate departments.
• Orders Pathology and Cytology in computer and maintains appropriate records.
• Sends and receives reports by fax; checks for failed faxes in the computer.
• Admits patients into the computer and orders tests.
• Maintains good atmosphere between patients and laboratory.
• Directs out-patients with written requests to collection area.
• Checks charges, scans, indexes and prints reports.
• Addresses denials due to lack of medical necessity via physician follow-up for additional information.
