Overview

Transdev’s Autonomous Specialists are critical to delivering safe autonomous driving systems to our customers and enabling a revolutionary mobility experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain Transdev’s high standard of safety inside and outside the vehicle.
• Consistently demonstrate situational awareness, an understanding of the technology in your care, and a willingness to adapt to changes in the environment.
• Act as the deputy for technology by communicating courteously with management, engineers, and the public.
• Respond quickly to changing and potentially high‑pressure environments.
• Work mostly individually but also in small groups of 2‑10 people.
• Operate a vehicle 6‑8 hours a day, up to 5 days a week.
• Follow established diagnostic guides to troubleshoot driver support modules, including mobile devices, laptops, and other work devices.
• Provide rides in the autonomous vehicle to the general public.
• Monitor multiple software systems with constant focus.
• Provide concise, clear, and accurate verbal and written feedback regarding the vehicle’s operations.
• Manage the vehicle’s key security process.
• Complete daily reports and document procedures and tests.
• Interact with the public politely and professionally, educating them on self‑driving technology when necessary.
• Operate autonomous vehicles on both defined and undefined routes, including a variety of environmental conditions.
• Operate onboard data collection systems.
• Comfortably ride as a passenger in an autonomous vehicle where the driver may have limited control.
• Safely operate a non‑autonomous vehicle while monitoring the location of a driverless vehicle during recovery operations.
• Safely recover the autonomous vehicle, including parking behind the driverless vehicle, setting up protection, disengaging the self‑driving car, and driving to a safe location.
• Apply safety procedures to any situation involving rescue of the self‑driving car.
• Oversee and ensure the security and import of disks, including accounting at the beginning and end of shift, and ensuring the proper amount of disks needed throughout the day.
• Assist as a point of contact for client security and facilities staff for issues and repairs at remote sites.
• Exercise excellent customer service while assisting passengers of the driverless vehicle to disembark, board the rescue vehicle, and safely drive passengers to their destination.
• Assist software progress by testing new features.
• Document recurring issues and potential bugs in new software.
• Follow weekly release emails and bug reports to stay up to date.
• Work closely with Operations Supervisor to keep demo documentation accurate and up to date.
• Represent the client by showcasing self‑driving technology to clients’ guests in a friendly, concise manner.
• Will be able to work assigned shift.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

• Minimum of 3 years of experience driving on public roads. Additional experience preferred.
• High School Diploma or GED required. Four‑year college degree in a related field such as industrial or applied sciences preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

• Ability to parallel park with minimal assistance.
• Proficiency with a laptop computer and GSuite apps (Gmail, Hangouts, Drive, Sheets, Docs).
• Proficiency with a touchscreen smartphone (Android preferred).
• Typing speed of at least 40 adjusted words per minute.
• Good attention to detail and ability to describe thoughts quickly and concisely.
• Capable of responding quickly and simultaneously to multiple scenarios.
• Adapt quickly to new and developing technology.
• Cross‑functional verbal and written communication and issue escalation.
• Ability to multitask multiple technologies, including communications devices and vehicle status systems.
• Ability to work specific shifts, including early mornings, evenings, overnights, and/or weekends, and travel up to one month; occasional overtime and recall for peak demand possible.
• Perform shift from a compact crossover vehicle; periodic exposure to the elements and outdoors.
• Travel up to 20% of the time.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Self‑motivated and demonstrates good judgment in fast‑paced, high‑stress environments.

Physical Requirements

• Routine and repetitive standing, walking, and long periods of sitting.
• Use of extremities to include hands/fingers/grip, and to handle or feel, talk or hear, climb stairs and/or ladders.
• May routinely require reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Routinely lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.
• Use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Most work is outdoors or in a vehicle.
• Work may require exposure to inclement weather or extreme environments.
• May need to operate alternative modes of transportation such as a bicycle or scooter.

Pre‑Employment Requirements

• Must be 21 years old.
• No more than one point on the driving record (California) or one non‑major moving violation in the preceding three years.
• Proficiency with a laptop computer and GSuite apps.
• No driver’s license suspension or revocation based on driving or operating a vehicle under the influence in the past ten years.
• Never the at‑fault driver of a motor vehicle involved in an accident that resulted in injury or death.
• Maintain a driving record that meets state AVT (Autonomous Vehicle Tester) and/or other applicable regulations.
• Meet driver requirements, including driving record and criminal history under applicable laws in the state(s) where the autonomous vehicle will be monitored.
• All Transdev employees must satisfactorily complete a pre‑employment drug screen and background check; safety‑sensitive positions also subject to a physical screening.
• Transdev reserves the right to perform ongoing background checks for all employees, except in states where this is prohibited by law.
• Ability to qualify for an Autonomous Vehicle Tester (AVT) license where required.
