Overview

Autonomous Specialists are critical to the success of delivering safe autonomous driving systems to our customers, enabling a revolutionary mobility experience.

Responsibilities include operating and evaluating a self‑driving vehicle in autonomous mode, collecting data, providing feedback, and offering ride‑hail service to the general public. Pay Rate: $29.00 – $35.00.

Work Schedule

Shifts may include 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., or 6:00 p.m., with corresponding schedules of Wednesday–Sunday, Thursday–Monday, Friday–Tuesday, or Saturday–Wednesday. Final shift assignments will be determined by client requirements and may be adjusted to support business demands.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain Transdev’s high standard of safety, inside and outside the vehicle.
  • Demonstrate situational awareness and willingness to adjust to changes.
  • Communicate courteously with management, engineers, and the public.
  • Respond quickly to changing and potentially high‑pressure environments.
  • Work individually and in small groups of 2–10 people.
  • Operate a vehicle 6–8 hours a day, up to 5 days a week.
  • Follow diagnostic guides to troubleshoot driver support modules, including mobile devices, laptops, and other work devices.
  • Provide rides in the autonomous vehicle to the general public.
  • Monitor multiple software systems with constant focus.
  • Provide clear verbal and written feedback on vehicle operations.
  • Manage the vehicle’s key security process.
  • Complete daily reports and document procedures and tests.
  • Interact politely with the public and educate them on self‑driving technology.
  • Operate autonomous vehicles on defined and undefined routes in various environmental conditions.
  • Operate onboard data collection systems.
  • Be comfortable riding as a passenger in an autonomous vehicle where the driver may have little control.
  • Safely operate a non‑autonomous vehicle while monitoring the location of a driverless vehicle during recovery operations.
  • Safely recover the autonomous vehicle, including parking, setting up protection, disengaging the self‑driving car, and driving to a safe location.
  • Apply safety procedures during any rescue of the self‑driving car.
  • Ensure security and handling of disks, accounting for disks at shift start and end.
  • Serve as a POC for client security and facilities staff for issues and repairs at remote sites.
  • Exercise excellent customer service while assisting passengers of the driverless vehicle to disembark, board the rescue vehicle, and drive to their destination.
  • Assist software progress by testing new features, documenting recurring issues, and staying up to date with release emails and bug reports.
  • Work closely with Operations Supervisor to keep demo documentation accurate and up to date.
  • Represent the client by showcasing self‑driving technology to guests.
  • Work assigned shift.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience driving on public roads (additional experience preferred).
  • High School Diploma or GED required; a four‑year college degree in a related field (industrial or applied sciences) is preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
  • Ability to parallel park with minimal assistance.
  • Proficiency with laptops and GSuite apps (Gmail, Hangouts, Driver, Sheets, Docs).
  • Proficiency with touchscreen smartphones (Android preferred).
  • Typing at least 40 adjusted wpm.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to describe thoughts concisely.
  • Respond quickly and simultaneously to multiple scenarios.
  • Adapt quickly to new and developing technology.
  • Cross‑functional verbal and written communication and issue escalation.
  • Multi‑task across technologies, including communication devices and vehicle status systems.
  • Work specific shifts, including early mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends, and travel up to one month; overtime may be required.
  • Work from a compact crossover vehicle; exposure to elements and outdoor work may occur.
  • Travel up to 20% of the time.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self‑motivated and demonstrate good judgment in fast‑paced, high‑stress environments.
Physical Requirements
  • Routine and repetitive standing, walking, and long periods of sitting.
  • Use of extremities to include hands/fingers/grip, handle or feel, talk or hear, climb stairs and/or ladders.
  • Reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed.
  • Lift and/or move up to 45 pounds routinely and repetitively.
  • Use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Work outdoors or in a vehicle; exposure to inclement weather or extreme environments may occur.
  • May need to operate alternative modes of transportation such as a bicycle or scooter.
Pre‑Employment Requirements
  • Must be 21 years old.
  • No more than 1 point on the driving record (California) or one non‑major moving violation in the preceding three years.
  • Proficiency with laptops and GSuite apps.
  • No driver’s license suspension or revocation based on driving under the influence in the past 10 years.
  • Never been the at‑fault driver of a motor vehicle involved in an accident that resulted in injury or death.
  • Maintain a driving record that meets state AVT (Autonomous Vehicle Tester) or applicable regulations.
  • Meet driver requirements, including driving record and criminal history, under applicable regulations in the state(s) of operation.
  • All employees must satisfactorily complete a pre‑employment drug screen and background check; safety‑sensitive positions will also have a physical screening.
  • Transdev reserves the right to perform ongoing background checks for all employees, except where prohibited by state law.
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record suitable for approval to drive as part of regular duties; records are monitored regularly.
  • Ability to qualify for an Autonomous Vehicle Tester (AVT) license where required.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without restrictions for any employer at any time (USCIS requirement).
