Job summary

Denver Public Schools is seeking an Apprentice Heavy Equipment Technician to repair and maintain district heavy equipment and small engines. The role includes diagnosing electrical systems, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring safe job sites.

Requirements include a high school diploma (2+ years experience for L1) and a valid Colorado driver's license. CDL may be required for higher levels, with a strong commitment to equity and community service.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; 2–10 years experience and training; L1 requires 2 years related experience.
  • Experience establishing computer based preventative maintenance software preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex automotive electrical systems preferred; ASE certification preferred.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License; CDL for L2/L3.
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and dismantling inequity in the community.
  • Live and work with a permanent Colorado address.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs district heavy equipment.
  • Performs scheduled maintenance on district heavy equipment and small engines.
  • Prepares and cleans up job site with attention to safety and waste disposal.
  • Diagnoses and repairs motor control circuits using schematics and manuals.
  • Reviews work orders and manages supplies using district PO system.
  • Cross trains in another trade as an apprentice.
  • Assists with snow removal on a 24-hour on-call basis.
  • Responds to emergencies 24/7.
