Selby Jennings is seeking a Long/Short Equity Research Analyst focused on Financials in New York City. You will work directly with a distinguished Portfolio Manager on an established Global Financials strategy.

This expansion hire covers the US Financials market with flexible sector coverage; conduct fundamental, bottom-up research and develop differentiated long/short ideas. You will collaborate on idea generation, portfolio positioning, and ongoing investment diligence within a lean team.

Qualifications

• Buyside equity research experience with a focus on Financials.
• Strong fundamental research and stock-picking skills.
• Existing coverage of the US market.
• Buy-side experience preferred; exceptional sell-side profiles considered.
• Ability to independently generate and underwrite actionable long/short ideas.
• Sector expertise within Financials, excluding REITs.

L/S Equity Research Analyst - Financials

Global Multi-Strategy Hedge Fund | New York City

A leading $15bn+ global multi-strategy hedge fund is looking to add an experienced Long/Short Equity Research Analyst to an established Global Financials strategy in New York.

The successful candidate will work directly with a distinguished Portfolio Manager who has a long-standing track record investing across global financials. Prior to launching their current strategy, the PM spent 18+ years at a brand-name flagship hedge fund, building deep expertise across the sector.

This is an expansion hire into a lean investment team, with the PM currently supported by one analyst. The new hire will take responsibility for coverage across the US Financials market, with significant flexibility around sector specialization.

The Opportunity

• Conduct fundamental, bottom-up research across US Financials
• Flexible sector coverage, with backgrounds across Banks, Insurance, Brokers, Exchanges, Payments, FinTech, Specialty Finance, Asset Managers and other Financial Services considered
• REIT-focused candidates are outside the scope of this search
• Develop differentiated investment ideas across both the long and short side
• Work closely with the PM on idea generation, portfolio positioning and ongoing investment diligence
• Join a small, established team where individual research can have a meaningful impact on the portfolio
• Benefit from the infrastructure, resources and stability of a $15bn+ global multi-strategy platform

Candidate Profile

• Experienced buyside equity research professional with a clear specialization in Financials
• Strong fundamental research and stock-picking skillset
• Existing coverage of the US market
• Prior experience on the buy-side strongly preferred, although exceptional sell-side profiles may be considered
• Ability to independently generate and underwrite actionable long/short investment ideas
• Sector expertise can be flexible within Financials, excluding REITs
