Job description

Responsibilities

• Triage walk-ins to determine if a patient is in labor, water is broken, false alarm, etc.
• Support pregnant patients in labor including induction, epidural assistance (if needed), general pain management, and fetal monitoring.
• Assist and circulate in the operating room for cesarean sections, tubal ligation, cerclage, and emergency procedures.
• Educate patients on various interventions or procedures, including medications (name and purpose), exams, and labor stages.
• Assess newborn and provide care.
• Communicate with the care management team, including anesthesiologist, physician or midwife, lactation nurse, charge nurse, postpartum unit, patient, and family.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• One (1) Year of Experience in Labor and Delivery.
• Associate's Degree in Nursing.
• Licensure: Active Texas RN License, in good standing with the Texas State Board of Nursing.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS AHA) and NRP.

Overview

As our Labor & Delivery Nurse at Memorial-Lufkin, now part of CommonSpirit Health formed between Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) and Dignity Health, you’ll guide patients through the labor and childbirth process, focusing on the safety of the mother and baby, with kindness and compassion.

In this role, you may work in Obstetrics, triaging patients or performing screening exams on walk-ins, or guide patients through routine inductions and deliveries. You will monitor the mother’s dilation progress, keep close watch on the baby’s fetal heart rate, coach the mother during delivery, and provide updates and support to the patient’s partner and loved ones.

To succeed, you must appreciate that routine is never routine. Some days are wonderful, being present during significant milestones, while others are challenging, supporting patients through grief. You must be sensitive, understanding, and above all, remain calm in emergencies. Patient and family should never see panic; you are calm, in control, and handling the situation.

Pay Range

$42.00 per hour
