LanguageLine Solutions is seeking a Kurmanji Telephone Interpreter responsible for interpreting conversations between Kurmanji and English speakers in various industries, including healthcare and law enforcement. As an independent contractor, you won’t be eligible for employee benefits.

Position Overview

The Kurmanji Telephone Interpreter is responsible for handling calls on demand and rendering the meaning of conversations between Kurmanji and English speakers across various industries (healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel & hospitality, general business, law enforcement, court, and emergency services). Independent contractor, not eligible for employee benefits.

Essential Job Functions

• Respond to sessions promptly and conduct interpretation professionally and friendly.
• Render correct concepts and meanings based on established interpretation protocol.
• Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation and enunciation.
• Maintain a professional and calm demeanor throughout sessions, including high‑pressure situations such as 911 calls.
• Maintain punctuality and availability during assigned work hours.
• Follow client instructions and protocol to meet the expectations of Limited English‑speaking Persons (LEP).
• Undergo cultural sensitivity training and maintain cultural competence for diverse environments.
• Provide services continuously during intense calls; understand that some calls may be highly emotional or stressful.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Kurmanji and English; cultural competency and understanding of regional and accent variations.
• Excellent listening, retention and note‑taking skills with a high level of accuracy.
• Ability to concentrate, remain detached, neutral and objective in sensitive conversations.
• Experience or education in language‑related fields (teaching, assessment, translation, interpretation) preferred.
• At least 18 years old; legally authorized to work in the United States without a visa requiring sponsorship.
• High school diploma or equivalent; reading and writing skills in the requested languages highly preferred.

Technical Requirements

• Dedicated personal device (desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone).
• Operating systems: Windows, macOS, or ChromeOS; iPadOS or Android tablets; iOS or Android smartphones.
• High‑speed Internet: download ≥5 Mbps, upload ≥3 Mbps, ping ≤300 ms, jitter ≤30 ms.
• Quiet, secure workspace free of background noise or distraction.
• Keyboard and mouse proficiency; ability to operate company software.

Physical Requirements

• Operate keyboard and mouse continuously in a stationary position.
• Lifting up to 26 lb.
• Tolerance for moderate noise levels.
