Position Overview

Job Title: Mongolian Interpreter
Location: Work at Home (United States)
Status: Independent Contractor
Pay: $0.75 - $0.90 per minute
This is an independent contractor position and therefore not eligible for employee benefits.

Essential Job Functions

• Respond to interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
• Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
• Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
• Maintain a professional demeanor throughout the interpreting sessions.
• Remain calm during interpreting sessions, especially in emergency situations such as 911 calls.
• Maintain punctuality and availability during work hours.
• Follow client instructions and protocol to ensure client expectations are met with the Limited English‑speaking Person (LEP).
• Understand industry protocols and terminology for medical, insurance, finance, law, and other relevant fields.
• Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and diversity.
• Handle emotionally charged or stressful calls, including those that may require extended periods of service without breaks.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Mongolian and English; strong cultural competency and ability to assess regional and accent differences.
• Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills to maintain high accuracy during interpretation.
• Ability to concentrate, remain detached from the conversation, and stay neutral and objective at all times.
• Experience or education in teaching, language assessment, translation, or interpretation preferred.
• Flexibility to adapt to technology enhancements that improve service delivery.
• Minimum age of 18 years and legal authorization to work in the United States without future visa sponsorship.
• High school diploma or equivalent; proficiency in reading and writing the required languages highly preferred.

Technical Requirements

• Dedicated personal device for business purposes (desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone).
• Operating systems: Windows, macOS, or ChromeOS; tablets running iPadOS or Android also acceptable.
• Internet connection with download speeds of at least 5Mbps, upload speeds of 3Mbps, ping no more than 300ms, and jitter no more than 30ms.
• Quiet, secure workspace free from background noise or distraction.
• Prohibited hardware: Kaspersky products and Huawei devices.

Physical Requirements

• Operate a keyboard and mouse and remain in a stationary position in front of a computer for the majority of the workday.
• Perform all essential job functions using provided software and systems.
• Manual dexterity required to type or write; able to lift up to 26lbs.
• Exposure to moderate noise levels (computer, audio, telephone) is expected.
