Job summary

Okta is seeking an experienced Site Reliability Engineer to build and manage Kubernetes platforms on AWS. You will design highly available clusters, automate deployments with Helm, and scale infrastructure using Karpenter and Istio. A strong background in CI/CD, scripting, and security is required, with in-depth AWS knowledge.

The role emphasizes cost optimization, incident response, and documentation. Willingness to travel for onboarding to SF or Chicago is noted, with in-person requirements.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience with Kubernetes/Helm.
• 4+ years of experience with Terraform.
• 5+ years of experience with AWS.
• Experience with multi-region cloud environments.
• Solid understanding of cloud-native architectures and AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, IAM).
• Hands-on Kubernetes platform creation, management, and optimization.
• Proficiency with Helm, Karpenter, Istio for service mesh and scaling.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools (Jenkins, GitLab, CircleCI, Terraform, Ansible, Spinnaker).
• Scripting/automation skills in Python, Bash, or Go.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable Kubernetes platforms.
• Manage AWS infrastructure and optimize cost and security.
• Automate deployments with Helm and CI/CD pipelines.
• Scale clusters with Karpenter based on workload demand.
• Configure Istio for secure service-to-service communication and observability.

• Respond to incidents and troubleshoot performance and security issues.
• Design secure cloud infrastructure with proper access controls.
