Job Description
Mission Technologies, a division of HII, is hiring a Kubernetes Engineer to join and support our team in Springfield, VA. This role focuses on building, maintaining, and optimizing container platforms that support modern, scalable, and resilient applications across the organization.
Travel: 0–10%. Employment Type: Full‑Time/Salaried/Exempt. Salary Range: $90,000–$194,000. Security Clearance: TS/SCI.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with development and infrastructure teams to design and implement Kubernetes clusters, manage core components, and develop automation for deployment, scaling, and lifecycle management.
- Create and maintain CI/CD integrations, engineer containerized solutions, and optimize cluster performance and resource utilization.
- Support solution design efforts such as architecture documentation, configuration prototypes, and infrastructure‑as‑code patterns. Conduct testing, troubleshoot platform issues, and ensure that Kubernetes environments operate securely, consistently, and in alignment with organizational standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands‑on experience responsible for the end‑to‑end engineering, implementation, and optimization of enterprise‑grade container orchestration environments.
- 5+ years of hands‑on experience deploying, running, troubleshooting, and managing containerized workloads with platforms such as Kubernetes, OpenShift, or Managed Cloud K8s (NKP/EKS/AKS/GKE).
- Demonstrated mastery in cluster lifecycle management, automated deployment via IaC tools (Terraform/Helm/Ansible), and the engineering of robust observability and security frameworks.
- Strong understanding of Linux systems, cloud‑native networking, and DevOps principles.
- Must meet DoD 8140/CSWF 661‑Intermediate or be willing to obtain the appropriate credential within 6 months.
- Requirements: Bachelors in related field with 5+ years of experience; Masters with 3+ years; PhD/Juris Doctorate with 0 years; High School Diploma with 9 years of relevant experience.
- TS/SCI clearance required with ability to obtain CI Poly.
Preferred Requirements
- Cloud‑native formal training or vendor certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Architect Associate, Google Professional Cloud Architect).
- Understanding and knowledge of system development lifecycles (e.g., waterfall, spiral, agile, DevSecOps).
- Experience supporting infrastructure in a hybrid cloud environment.
- Expertise in engineering and implementing enterprise‑level platforms focusing on cluster lifecycle, network, service mesh, and observability.
