Job summary

Bryan Health is seeking a compassionate Registered Nurse to provide direct and indirect patient care in a Medical/Surgical setting, including neonate care. You will communicate with physicians and leadership, respond rapidly to changes, and perform general nursing duties with supervision.

You will assess and revise care plans with the team, educate patients and families, document care, and participate in department projects while upholding core values and patient safety.

Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Provides direct and indirect patient care in the Medical/Surgical setting. Communicates with physicians, leadership, and co-workers, as appropriate, about changes in patient's clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Performs general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Commits to the KRMC mission, vision, values and goals and consistently demonstrates our core values.
  2. Initiates assessment and reassessment of the neonate patient in accordance with Kearney Regional Medical Center's procedures.
  3. In collaboration with physician, establishes and revises plan of care as indicated by the patient's response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
  4. Integrates appropriate standards of care into the patient's plan of care based on the diagnosis and patient-specific needs.
  5. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  6. Executes therapeutic and/or supportive interventions.
  7. Provides education for the patient and family to meet identified patient needs according to their needs, abilities, preferences and readiness to learn.
  8. Evaluates the patient's response to and effectiveness of interventions.
  9. Evaluates patient's progress toward established outcomes.
  10. Incorporates cultural considerations into the plan/delivery of care.
  11. Includes family, significant other, or identified support person in the care of the patient as appropriate.
  12. Documents patient care and related information according to KRMC's procedures for documentation.
  13. Provides care in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary team. Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
  14. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  15. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs.
  16. Assists physicians with procedures in the Emergency Department.
  17. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  1. Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient's growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies.
  2. Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the patient and their clinical condition.
  3. Knowledge of ventilators and neonate monitoring and treats appropriately based on protocols and policies.
  4. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
  5. Ability to assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills.
  6. Ability to perform a head-to-toes assessment on the neonate and reassessments as per policy.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  8. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.
  9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.
  10. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.
  11. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.
  12. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
  13. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. BSN or current enrollment in BSN program preferred.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
  1. Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
  2. National Institutes of Health (NIH) Stroke Scale certification required within 6 months of hire.
  3. For those working in a charge role: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within 90 days of hire.
  4. For those working in a charge role: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 90 days of hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)

(DOT) - Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 35 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 35 pounds of force frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
