What does this role do at AHIMA?

The Knowledge Management Specialist at AHIMA will help build and maintain the systems that make our knowledge accessible to those who need it. This individual will drive the development of knowledge bases for internal and external audiences, including helping to establish processes and policies to guide the maintenance and accuracy of our knowledge. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing skills, a strong ability to understand and advocate for the reader's perspective, and a love for problem solving.

What are some of the responsibilities?

  • Help define and support internal knowledge management processes and structures, including documentation standards, templates, and version control
  • Organize and maintain internal documentation libraries, SOPs, process flows, and shared resources
  • Assist in building and maintaining a customer-facing knowledge base, including writing and organizing help articles, FAQs, and guides
  • Work with internal teams (support, product, marketing) to gather and publish accurate, user-friendly content
  • Identify knowledge gaps and collaborate with subject matter experts to fill them
  • Ensure both internal and external content is clear, consistent, and up to date
  • Track knowledge base usage and feedback to drive continuous improvements
  • Support training and enablement by making internal knowledge easily accessible and usable
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to explain complex topics clearly
  • Ability to guide stakeholders and SMEs through documenting and clarifying complex processes
  • Extremely strong writing and editing skills, focused on making deliverables as user-friendly as possible
  • Comfortable working across teams to gather information and keep it organized
  • Initiative, curiosity, and a desire to learn new systems and processes

What are the knowledge and skills requirements?

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., English, Technical Writing, Journalism, Communications) or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in knowledge management, technical documentation, or related fields
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience supporting cross-functional initiatives
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Experience in Health Information Management (HIM) or closely related industries
