Job summary

Northwest Arctic Borough School District is seeking a Bus Driver to operate a school bus and transport pupils and authorized personnel to and from schools. Immediate availability and a 7.5-hour day, 190 days per year, with a starting wage of $28.77 per hour.

Responsibilities include pre-trip checks, safe student transport, adherence to district rules, and maintaining bus cleanliness. CDL with endorsements is required, district assistance offered for CDL, and pre-employment checks apply.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED.
• 1–2 years related experience or training.
• Valid Alaska CDL with air brake, passenger, and school bus endorsements (District will assist with getting CDL).
• Must be 21+ and pass pre-employment drug test; fingerprints must clear safety checks.
• Ability to lift 40 pounds.
• First Aid certification preferred.
• Spotless driving record.

Responsibilities

• Check bus before each operation for mechanical defects and notify the proper authority if issues.
• Transport and discharge students only at authorized stops.
• Adhere to all District rules and regulations and observe traffic laws.
• Maintain discipline when students are on the bus and report problems to the supervisor.
• Keep assigned bus clean and follow route and schedule.
• Perform other tasks as the supervisor may assign.
