Job summary

Indiana University (IU) Dining and Hospitality is seeking a Kitchen Utility Attendant to maintain cleanliness of facilities, equipment, and dining areas while supporting food service operations on campus. The role involves ware-washing, dishwashing, and general custodial tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include sanitation duties, supervising student workers, and assisting with heavy labor tasks as part of maintaining a safe and welcoming dining experience for guests and IU

Qualifications

  • General knowledge at the high school level.
  • Some prior experience.
  • Food Safety (ServSafe) certification within 180 days from dateof hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general kitchen cleaning and sanitation tasks asassigned by the manager in charge.
  • Cleans and maintains assigned work areas (the dish room,kitchen, dining rooms, food server areas, and restrooms) whichincludes wiping, washing, dusting, sweeping, mopping, and trashremoval.
  • Performs a combination of traditional custodial work as well as ware-washing and dishwashing tasks.
  • Performs general kitchen sanitation duties and tasks anddirects, teaches, and monitors assigned students and othertemporary employees in the proper performance of custodialactivities.
  • Performs a variety of heavy labor tasks for general kitchenoperations; cleans and maintains assigned equipment such as floorscrubbers, carpet vacuums, etc.
  • Washes windows and interior/exterior surfaces in dining rooms,assigned lobby areas, kitchen offices, and all other diningfacility areas.
  • Separates and removes trash and garbage and places it indesignated containers.
  • Supports and practices departmental standards related to wasterecycling; cleans out garbage cans.
  • Performs ware-washing duties and tasks.
  • Cleans and sanitizes pots, pans, food preparation equipment,and trays.
  • Cleans, sanitizes, and performs routine preventive maintenanceon dishwasher and other mechanical food preparation equipment.
  • Transfers supplies and equipment between delivery point,storage, and work areas; loads or unloads trucks picking up ordelivering supplies.
  • Collects and delivers items for storeroom operations when theStores Representative is not available.
  • Refills and organizes service tray display counters, cabinets,or tables.
  • Sets up tables and other furniture and equipment.
  • Directs, teaches, and monitors assigned students and othertemporary employees in the proper performance of basic ware-washingtasks.

Job Summary

Working Conditions / Demands

This role regularly requires the ability to effectivelycommunicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handleequipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remainstationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role frequentlyrequires the ability to move objects weighing 20 to 50 pounds. Therole requires the ability to detect items in close proximity aswell as far away; discern between colors; detect objects inperipheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have gooddepth perception. This role works indoors around high temperaturesand loud noises. This role involves handling meat and plant-basedfood products as well as a variety of ingredients that may includesome or all of the top 9 allergens during the course of cleaningand ware-washing tasks. The person in this role must be able toperform the essential functions with or without anaccommodation.

Work Hours

This is a variable shift position. Shift times vary according to business needs. Management reserves the right to adjust work hours to accommodate special meals and events.
