Job summary

The Camas School District is seeking a dedicated team member for the school nutrition program. You will prepare meals, serve and replenish offerings, and maintain daily kitchen operations to support students and the school community.

Responsibilities include inventory, safety reporting, and occasional cashier duties during meal service, with opportunities to contribute to menu planning with the Nutrition Services Director.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Previous successful food service experience, preferably in a school or public environment.
  • Must acquire ServSafe Certification and maintain health card during employment; basic computer skills including MS Office.

  • Serve meals and replenish food offerings during meal services.
  • Ensure daily setup and cleanup of kitchen and service areas.
  • Plan and prepare menus with Nutrition Services Director.
  • Ensure proper food preparation and portion sizes.
  • Follow health and safety standards in kitchen and service areas.
  • Record inventory, safety reports, and daily production as directed.
  • Cashier during meal service when assigned.
  • Receive and route free and reduced meal applications.
  • Monitor meals served and forecast food needs.

Job description

Reports to:

Nutrition Services Director

Purpose:

To work as part of a team and to participate in the smooth and efficient operations of the school cafeteria to serve students and the school community nutritious meals, maintain a friendly atmosphere, and maintain all health, safety, and nutrition standards.

Essential Functions:
  • Prepare meals for the assigned school, satellite schools and/or base kitchen.
  • Serve meals and replenish food offerings during meal services.
  • Ensure the daily set up and cleanup of kitchen and service areas.
  • Work with the Nutrition services director to plan and prepare for menus for the school.
  • Ensure proper food preparation and service to include proper portion sizes.
  • Ensure for and follow all health and safety standards in the kitchen and service areas.
  • Complete necessary inventory reports, safety reports and daily production records as directed by the Nutrition Services Director.
  • Provide for the storage and / or disposal of all food not served.
  • Cashier during meal service when assigned.
  • When assigned cashier duties, count, record, and deposit all money received.
  • Receive and route free and reduced meal applications.
  • Track and order foods for daily service.
  • Monitor and record all meals served daily. Adjust forecast as necessary to ensure correct amount of food prepared.
  • Ensure that kitchen equipment is clean and in good working order.
  • Assist with the checking in of food shipments.
  • Clean kitchens after all meal services to include dishes, floors, and laundry as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as needed to ensure the effective operations of the kitchen and school community at large.

Professional Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous successful food service experience, preferably in a school or public environment.
  • Must have or acquire a food services health card and maintain the card for the duration of employment. Must acquire and have, or acquire within 45 days, ServSafe® Certification maintaining both for the duration of employment.
  • Basic computer skills and experience to include MS Office products as well as data entry.
  • Must support the value of an education.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
  • Noisy, crowded environment
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to safely bend, lift, push, and pull
  • Must be able to safely operate kitchen equipment to include ovens, ranges, knives, and other potentially dangerous objects

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Benefits:

School Employee Benefit Board (SEBB) Eligibility determination: All eligibility determinations are based on rules in Chapters 182-30 and 182-31 of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC). If the position is anticipated to work a minimum of 630 hours in a school year, then that position would be deemed benefit eligible. SEBB benefits include medical, vision, dental, long-term disability and life insurance. Supplemental coverages are also available.

Retirement Eligibility determination: A certificated position participates in the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) which requires at least 5 months of 70 or more hours of compensated employment during a school year to be eligible for Washington State Retirement. A classified position participates in the School Employee Retirement System (SERS) if the position is expected to require at least 5 months of 70 hours or more for two consecutive years (initially) of employment.
