Job summary

Kennebec Valley Community Action Program (KVCAP) is hiring a substitute Kitchen Aide for our Waterville and Skowhegan locations. This is a varied hour, as-needed position, assisting with meal prep and food service for children in Head Start programs.

The role emphasizes safe, nutritious meals in accordance with CACFP, with opportunities to assist in ordering and kitchen operations. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and pass required background checks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in food service operation.
• Knowledge of food safety sanitation regulations; ServSafe Certification preferred.
• Ability to pass a physical examination and background checks including fingerprinting.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Cook with food preparation for meals, meetings and catering, ensuring foods are attractive and of good quality.
• Adhere to standardized recipes and preparation for children’s meals for consistent quality.
• Ensure CACFP regulatory compliance and reflect Head Start philosophies in meals for children.
• Transport food and dishes to and from mealtime settings and meeting rooms, ensuring timely delivery and pickup.
• Maintain kitchen safety and sanitation standards per CACFP, Head Start, OSHA and ServSafe; report repairs as needed.
• Assist with food and supply orders.
• Support interdisciplinary work and collaboration.

Kennebec Valley Community Action Program (KVCAP), which seeks to strengthen individuals, families and communities through direct services and community collaborations that create solutions to poverty, is looking to hire a substitute Kitchen Aide for both our Waterville and Skowhegan Locations. This is varied hour, as needed position.

• Assists the Cook with food preparation for meals, meetings and catering ensuring foods provided are attractive, appealing and of good quality.
• Adheres to standardized recipes and preparation for children’s meals for consistent quality.
• Ensures food quantities and food components for children’s meals meet Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) regulatory compliance, Child Care and are reflective of Head Start philosophies.
• Transports food and dishes to and from mealtime setting and meeting rooms, as assigned assuring timely delivery and pick-up.
• Ensures Kitchen Safety and Sanitation. Indicators include: Following established standards/regulations of CACFP, Head Start, Child Care, OSHA and ServSafe for food safety and sanitation. Uses kitchen equipment safely and informs supervisor if not operating propery and of potential repairs.
• Assists with food and supply orders.
• Supports Interdisciplinary Work and Collaboration.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in food service operation
• Knowledge of food/safety sanitation regulations; ServSafe Certification preferred
• Ability to relate positively to children and adults
• Ability to lift 50 pound containers and packages, and to regularly sit, speak, listen, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch
• Ability to pass a physical examination, background checks including fingerprinting
