Job summary

Boyd Gaming is seeking a Kitchen Steward to support the culinary team by maintaining a clean and organized dishwashing area, operating equipment, and stocking silverware for service.

Responsibilities include washing dishes and large cookware, inspecting and storing clean items, and keeping the area clean for peak times. On‑the‑job training is provided; applicants must be at least 16 years old and ready for a hands-on role in a busy casino kitchen.

Qualifications

• Environment with varying temperatures, heat, noise and vibration.
• Ability to move around the work area and stand for long periods.
• Must be able to reach, bend, squat and lift loads up to 50 pounds, and push/pull up to 100 pounds.
• Must sort silverware and operate dishwashing equipment after training.
• At least 16 years of age; on‑the‑job training provided.

Responsibilities

• Wash dishes, pots, etc., and ensure cleanliness of the culinary area.
• Work as part of a dishwashing crew and process items through dishwashing machine.
• Inspect and store clean items properly from the machine.
• Wash large items not suitable for dishwashing machines.
• Keep work area clean at all times.
• Polish silver and assist with banquets or special events as needed.

Job Description

The Kitchen Steward is responsible for washing dishes, pots, etc., and ensuring the cleanliness of the culinary area.

The Kitchen Steward:

• Works as a member of a dishwashing crew ensuring soiled items are placed in proper racks or containers which carry them through a dishwashing machine.
• Inspects, removes, and properly stores all clean items from the dishwashing machine.
• Washes steam kettles, tilt fryers, and food preparation equipment too large to put in dishwashing machines.
• Supplies dishware to food preparation stations as needed; removes soiled dishware and cooking equipment from food preparation stations.
• Keeps work area (floor, machine, shelving, carts, etc.) clean at all times.
• Performs miscellaneous duties, such as polishing silver, working in store room and preparing for banquets, special events, etc., as assigned.

Qualifications

• Ability to work in an environment that is subject to varying levels of cold, heat, noise and vibration; the kitchen steward is subject to hazards such as wet floors; proper precautions are taken.
• Ability to effectively and efficiently move around work area.
• Ability to stand for majority of shift.
• Must be able to inspect all work performed.
• Must be able to reach, bend, squat, and carry loads of up to 50 pounds, as well as push/pull loads of up to 100 pounds so as to be able to restock all items as needed.
• Must be able to sort all silverware as needed.
• Must be able to operate machines and equipment used, but not limited to, are all dishwashing equipment after proper training.
• Must be at least 16 years of age.

The skills necessary for this position are typically acquired through two months of on–the-job training or through related experience.
