Overview

This seasonal position involves preparing meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snacks) during the summer for the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Food Production Staff are essential for the success of our Summer Program.

Responsibilities

• Follow the planned menu to manage food costs.
• Prepare, portion, garnish, serve meals, and maintain food storage and equipment according to instructions.
• Ensure all kitchen tools, equipment, and workspaces are clean, functional, and sanitary, following Department of Health standards.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment.
• Protect meals from contamination and properly use equipment for hot and cold holding.
• Follow directions from Culinary Leadership and management staff.
• Collaborate with staff and volunteers to promote teamwork.
• Guide and assist volunteers as needed.
• Accurately record meal and utensil counts for each site and assist with corrections.
• Ensure meals are packaged attractively and in good condition to maximize consumption, providing corrections when necessary.
• Manage inventory using FIFO methods.
• Monitor and log refrigerated equipment, reporting issues promptly.
• Adhere to all SAFB policies.

Qualifications

• Food Handler’s Certification required within 30 days of hire.
• Willingness to learn meal preparation per SFSP guidelines.
• Effective time management and ability to work independently.
• Ability to work cooperatively with team members and volunteers.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and meeting deadlines.
• Professional and courteous demeanor.
• Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation required.
• Availability for >30 hours/week, including mornings, weekends, and evenings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in food service, ServSafe Certification, or Culinary Training.

Physical & Work Environment

Standing, walking, sitting, and handling objects are required. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work primarily in a kitchen setting, with outdoor food site events. Moderate noise level.
