Job summary

MSU Residential and Hospitality Services at Kellogg Center seeks a Kitchen Sanitation Assistant to manage dish room operations and post-event cleaning. The role offers $16.00 per hour and is on-site.

Applicants must be MSU students, able to work at least 15 hours weekly, and demonstrate strong customer service and teamwork. Shifts vary, with mornings Monday–Thursday, and may include evenings and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled as a student at Michigan State University during the academic year.
• Available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week.
• Positive and respectful, especially with a diverse population.
• Able to stand for long periods.
• Able to work at least two shifts Monday–Thursday 6 am to 10 am or 10 am to 2 pm.

Responsibilities

• Operate the dish machine and three-compartment sink.
• Check water temperature and soap concentrations to maintain sanitation standards.
• Periodically clean dish machine, walls, ceilings, doors, shelves and sinks.
• Scrape, soak, wash, dry and store dishes, glassware, silverware, pots and pans and cooking sheets.
• Sweep, mop and sanitize floors.
• Ensure Kellogg Center guests receive outstanding customer service.

As a Kitchen Sanitation Assistant, you will be responsible for the operation of the dish room area and cleaning up the kitchen after banquet events.

Typical Duties May Include, But Not Limited To

• This position does not have a set schedule and times vary depending on the needs of the company
• Operation of the dish machine and three compartment sink
• Check water temperature and soap concentrations, adjusting as necessary to maintain sanitation standards.
• Preform periodic cleaning of dish machine, walls, ceilings, doors, shelves and sinks
• Scraping, soaking, washing, drying and storing of dishes, glassware, silverware, pots and pans and cooking sheets and other items.
• Sweep, mop and sanitize floors
• It is your job to make sure the guests of the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center receive the most outstanding customer service.

Must be able to work a minimum 15 hours per week

Work Hours

• Must be able to work varied shifts, between 6 am and 2 pm.
• During the school year domestic student employees may not work more than 29 hours per work week and international student employees may not work more than 20 hours per work week.
• During school breaks, between semesters, and during summer semester, all student employees are permitted to work up to 40 hours per work week.
