Job summary

Hunters & Gatherers is a part of BakeChop Co. and seeks a Kitchen Lead / Chef to oversee day-to-day BOH operations and to work alongside the team on the line. The role combines culinary excellence with operational discipline, including staff development, cost control, and maintaining high sanitation standards.

The ideal candidate will lead a busy kitchen, develop weekly and seasonal specials, manage inventory and labor, and foster a positive, professional kitchen culture in Downtown DeLand.

Qualifications

• Strong line cook and kitchen leadership experience.
• Confident with cooking steaks and proteins to temperature.
• Experience with fish breakdown and basic butchery.
• Experience with ordering and inventory.
• Understanding of food cost and labor management.
• Strong organizational and sanitation standards.
• Comfortable creating specials and contributing menu ideas.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Enjoys training and developing staff.
• Flexible and hands on.
• Comfortable working events and community events.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day BOH operations and support the team during service.
• Work multiple stations and assist during busy periods.
• Maintain food quality, portioning, and presentation standards.
• Develop and execute weekly and seasonal specials.
• Manage ordering, receiving, inventory, and pars.
• Monitor waste, food cost, and labor within budget.
• Train and develop cooks across experience levels.
• Maintain kitchen organization and cleanliness.
• Communicate with FOH leadership and BakeChop Co. management.
