The Modern in New York City is seeking Kitchen Externs to join its award-winning kitchen team. You’ll support the dining room’s culinary operations, refine techniques, and learn in a fast-paced environment under seasoned chefs.

We look for candidates with culinary education, the ability to stand for long periods, and strong English communication. Competitive hourly pay and mentorship opportunities are offered to help you grow in hospitality.

Qualifications

• Experience in a kitchen environment through education (culinary school, or similar).
• English fluency required; additional languages preferred but not required.
• Ability to walk or stand for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

• Consistently support a culture of Enlightened Hospitality.
• Demonstrate an eagerness to refine techniques and to continually learn and grow.
• Communicate effectively with the kitchen team and embrace teamwork.
• Work with the prep and receiving team to receive, label, and store market deliveries.
• Assist line cooks in preparing components for their stations and learn to set up a station independently.
