Job description

Position Purpose: Lead execution of daily food preparation and services for Heart & Soul Caterings and events as needed. Develop food service contracts regarding; 1) costs, 2) personnel, 3) nutritional value, 4) time/place/delivery.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Food Services as well as supervise Heart and Soul Catering Cooks to implement the core values of the “Heart and Soul” nutrition model.
  • Supervise cooks and substitute cooks to consistently prepare, cook, and present food items as needed daily within serving size and temperature standards set by DC Departments of health on behalf of Heart & Soul Catering.
  • Design new recipes, plan menus, and select plate and event presentation.
  • Supervise food and supply inventory to ensure adequate stocks are available, control costs, and reduce food waste.
  • Ensure prompt delivery, quality, and freshness of all Heart & Soul Catering products and compliance with industry standards of food services and deliveries.
  • Provide overall direction for the implementation of Heart and Soul Catering.
  • Liaise with the Director of Food Services to ensure contract standards and quality of service.
  • Obtain feedback on food service, quality, and handling customer problems and complaints.
  • Ensure the quality and the measurable effectiveness of Heart and Soul Catering performance objectives for individuals in the program.
  • Ensure the quality of all Heart and Soul Catering products and compliance with industry standards of food services and deliveries
  • Provide cooking support in the Bethesda kitchen as needed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • A minimum of 3+ years experience with scratch and batch cooking and food preparation
  • Food service management experience required
  • Strong and reliable work ethics and ability to supervise and communicate and lead teams to execute on catering contracts
  • Valid SERV Safe and Food Safety Manager’s Certification in both MD & DC
  • Must have a clean driving record, active driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
  • When necessary, available to after hours, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Ability to stand for long or extended standing sometimes 5hrs or more, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting 40lbs or more, and standing near extreme heat conditions.
  • Maintain self-motivation and work independently with limited supervision
  • An attitude compatible with the goals and purposes of Heart & Soul Catering
  • Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle and feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Vision abilities include close vision with a computer monitor. The noise level is usually quiet to moderate. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Salary: $53,000 annually
