Kitchen Assistant/Dishwasher - Part Time, Evening and Weekend Shifts
Reports To: Sr. Food Service Director
Hours: Part time - Evenings and weekends
Position Summary:
Responsible for performing a variety of duties in the Dietary Department to ensure the area is kept clean and all services are accomplished in a customer-friendly environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure an adequate supply of clean utensils, dishes, pots, and pans.
- Scrap trays, soak dishes and utensils, and assemble the dish machine.
- Operate an industrial dishwasher.
- Set up and wash pots and pans.
- Remove trash from the kitchen.
- Follow proper safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Perform opening and closing side work.
- Clean up spills or broken glassware immediately.
- Provide quality food to residents, visitors, employees, and guests in a timely manner.
- Make tea and coffee, clean coffee machines in healthcare.
- Assist on tray line, set up trays with utensils, napkins, condiments, read and call out diet cards, some bending and lifting up to 10 pounds.
- Place plates, desserts, and drinks on trays and then on carts.
- Clean area and store milk and juice.
- Empty and clean tea urns and coffee pots.
- Collect trays and trash from the floor.
- Assist with sweeping and mopping floors.
- Lift trash cans as needed.
- Report any unusual conditions, behaviors, or resident reactions to licensed personnel promptly.
- Respond in a kind, polite, and professional manner to residents, families, visitors, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Protect confidential information concerning residents, families, and the organization.
- Follow all safety procedures, including fire, disaster, and bomb threat protocols.
- Adhere to organizational, departmental, and nursing procedures.
- Attend scheduled conferences and in-services.
- Report sanitation or janitorial issues promptly.
- Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the position.
Specific Requirements:
- Ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Ability to manage time, multiple tasks, and projects effectively.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- One or more years of food service experience preferred.
