A leading non-profit organization is seeking a Kitchen Assistant for its Oklahoma City location. This part-time role involves assisting the Lead Cook with meal preparation, kitchen cleanliness, and ensuring compliance with health regulations. Ideal candidates should have a high school diploma and some kitchen experience. The position requires working weekdays and Saturdays, totaling 29 hours per week.
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for Kitchen Assistant-Part Time for the Central Oklahoma Area Command, located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Job Summary
Assists Lead Cook in the preparation and serving of meals, snacks and coffee; prepares dining room for meals and assists in dining room and kitchen clean-up; cleans kitchen equipment and washes dishes; sweeps and mops floors.
Must be able to work weekdays from 12 pm to 6 pm and Saturdays from 6 am to 6 pm with meal breaks. This is a 29 hour per week position.
Essential Functions

Preparation of Meals and Upkeep (95%)
Assists in preparing meals, beverages and snacks; washes and chops fruits and vegetables; mixes beverages and arranges snacks.
Assists in serving meals ensuring appropriate proportions are provided.
Washes, dries, and stores pots, pans, plates, glasses, cups, bowls, and utensils.
Cleans tables, chairs, floors, dishes, utensils, kitchen appliances and condiment holders
Sweeps and mops kitchen and dining room floors.
Cleans refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, coffee makers, stoves, and ovens.
Stocks foods, beverages, and supplies in an orderly and safe manner.
Performs all kitchen work in accordance with health regulations as it relates to food preparation, food serving and storage.
Maintain orderly freezer and walk-in storage unit. Clean and defrost as needed.
Stores, refrigerates, and freezes foods in a safe and economical manner; monitors expiration dates on all foods ensuring proper disposal of food with expired dates.
Maintains a high degree of cleanliness in the kitchen and dining room; ensures that all meals are prepared in a safe manner; ensures all kitchen personnel and volunteers practice proper personal hygiene; ensures compliance with health regulations.
Other Responsibilities (5%)
Assists in monitoring work of volunteers working in the kitchen.
Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or G.E.D. AND one year experience working in a kitchen preferred, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications/Licenses
Food Operators License or ability to get one
Driver’s License Preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of cleaning practices, methods, and techniques.
Ability to assist in the preparation and presentation of meals.
Ability to wash dishes and kitchen appliances.
Ability to clean kitchen and dining area.
Physical Requirements
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Duties are usually performed by frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting.
Working Conditions
Works is performed in a normal kitchen environment where there may be limited physical discomforts associated with working around hot stoves/ovens or cold freezers
