Job summary

YM & YWHA of Washington Heights & Inwood is seeking a Kitchen Aide to assist in food preparation, service, and cleanup under supervision. The position runs Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, with a half-hour unpaid lunch break.

Qualifications

• Basic kitchen knowledge required.

Responsibilities

• Food preparation and food service.
• Promote appropriate customer service to seniors, guests and staff.
• Maintain order of food areas.
• Clean dining room and kitchen areas, equipment and utensils.
• Operate dishwasher and manage washing and storage of wares.
• Follow directions from kitchen manager/chef or senior center director.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

In full uniform and under the supervision of the Chef/Kitchen Manager, Assistant Cook, or Senior Center Director, the Kitchen Aide assists in food preparation, food service, customer service, packaging, and cleanup.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

• Monday to Friday
• 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, with half hour unpaid lunch break

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Food preparation and food service
• Promoting appropriate customer service to seniors, guests and staff
• Maintaining order of food areas
• Cleaning dining room, kitchen (including cupboards, shelves, racks, work surfaces, cooking equipment, dishes, and utensils)
• Clean large and small appliances, equipment, and storage areas
• Operation of the dishwasher machine (In/Before food service at lunch time washing pots, pans, any build-up at the dirty dishware area; storing them in a clean, sanitary and orderly manner)
• Perform other related tasks at the direction of the kitchen manager/chef or senior center director

COMPENSATION

• Paid at $19 per hour.
• Eligible for salary increases under the collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
