Prospect Heights Park District is seeking a KinderStop Coordinator to supervise and coordinate the before/after school program in Prospect Heights, IL. This role focuses on safe, engaging activities and strong leadership of KinderStop Aides throughout the school year.

The position is part-time (10 months) following the school calendar, with daily hours from 2:15 to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday, plus possible event-related duties.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Education, Recreation, Child Development, or related field preferred.
  • Experience supervising childcare, before/after school, camp, or youth recreation programs preferred.
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Must pass background screening and mandatory reporter training.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operation of KinderStop program ensuring a safe, engaging environment.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for preschool to first-grade participants.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to KinderStop Aides.
  • Maintain attendance records and program documentation.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians during drop-off and pick-up.
  • Ensure spaces, equipment, and supplies are organized for daily operation.
  • Assist with purchasing supplies and inventory management.
  • Report concerns to Recreation Supervisor and complete incident reports.
  • Support staff training, coaching, and performance evaluations.
  • Adhere to Park District policies and Illinois law regarding child safety.

Supervises: Kinderstop Aides

Pay Range: The starting hiring range is $15.00 - $18.23 per hour dependent on experience and education. Full pay range for this position is $15.00 - $21.87 per hour.

Summary

The KinderStop Coordinator is a part-time, 10-month position responsible for the daily supervision, coordination, and operation of the KinderStop before and after school program during the school year. This position oversees program activities, provides leadership and direction to KinderStop Aides, ensures a safe and welcoming environment for participants, and assists with planning, organizing, and evaluating all aspects of the program.

Work Schedule

This is a part-time, 10-month position that follows the local school district calendar working approximately 2:15 – 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Work hours are based on the school-year calendar and program needs. Additional hours may be required for staff training, meetings, special events, or program preparation.

Essential Duties/Job Responsibilities

The following duties are representative but not all-inclusive:

  • Oversee the daily operation of the KinderStop program to ensure a safe, engaging, and positive environment for participants.
  • Plan, organize, and implement developmentally appropriate activities for preschool, kindergarten, and first-grade participants.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, training, and day-to-day supervision of KinderStop Aides.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for participants, families, and staff.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with parents/guardians during participant drop-off and pick-up.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, participant sign-in/sign-out records, and other required documentation.
  • Ensure program spaces, equipment, and supplies are organized, clean, and ready for daily operation.
  • Monitor inventory and request program supplies as needed.
  • Assist with purchasing program supplies in accordance with Park District procedures.
  • Report participant concerns, behavioral issues, safety concerns, facility concerns, and employee issues to the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Complete accident, incident, and behavior reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Assist with staff training, coaching, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with Park District policies, safety procedures, and the Illinois Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act.
  • Maintain confidentiality of participant and employee information.
  • Perform all job responsibilities in accordance with the District's safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Education, Recreation, Child Development, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience supervising childcare, before/after school, camp, or youth recreation programs preferred.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification or ability to obtain certification within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • Must successfully complete the Park District's background screening process, in accordance with applicable law.
  • Must successfully complete all required Park District, DCFS (if applicable), and mandatory reporter training.

  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate daily program operations.

Physical, Cognitive and Environmental Requirements
  • Ability to actively participate in children's games and recreational activities, including running, jumping, bending, kneeling, and sitting on and rising from the floor.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or remain active for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move program supplies, equipment, and furniture weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to set up and move tables, chairs, and other program equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through written communication.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively during emergencies and challenging situations, including administering first aid or CPR when necessary.
  • Ability to supervise multiple participants and staff simultaneously while maintaining awareness of safety.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and temperatures.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and complete administrative responsibilities accurately and on time.
