Job summary

West Bristol School in Bristol Public Schools seeks a Kindergarten Teaching Assistant for a grant-funded position. The role supports instruction in classroom, small groups, and one-on-one settings, under the direction of the classroom teacher.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree, assist with IEP/504/SRBI tasks, and help implement Fundations concepts, literacy and math activities, while maintaining a safe classroom environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Reteach Fundations concepts.
  • Monitor Lexia/ST platforms and review progress.
  • Provide substitute coverage, as needed.
  • Escort students between rooms and assist with transitions.
  • Assist with IEP/504/SRBI implementation.
  • Supervise students during recess and lunch.
  • Prepare materials and paperwork for instructional purposes.
  • Alert teachers to problems and ensure safety standards.

POSITION TITLE: KINDERGARTEN TEACHING ASSISTANT (Grant funded position) - West Bristol School

SUMMARY: Assist in classroom, small group and individual pupil instruction.

  • Assist students with instruction under the direction of the classroom teacher
  • Assist teacher in maintaining a positive, focused classroom environment
  • Assist teacher with instructional activities
  • Conduct small group instruction as directed by the teacher, with groups of students to provide literacy and math support
  • Conduct one on one instructional sessions as directed by the teacher, with students that need additional support
  • Reteach and review Fundations concepts
  • Monitor, assist, and review based on Lexia/ ST platforms
  • Provide substitute coverage, as needed
  • Escort students from room to room
  • Toileting students as needed
  • Includes working with students regarding their general education and special education needs
  • Assist teaching staff in the implementation of IEP/ 504/ SRBI plans
  • Supervise students while they are at recess and lunch
  • Copy materials for instructional purposes
  • Assist teacher in filing material and preparing all necessary paperwork
  • Alert teachers to problems that may be observed
  • Ensure classroom safety standards are met at all times
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The teaching assistant is responsible for the safety and well-being of students in his/her charge.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY, AN INDIVIDUAL MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM EACH ESSENTIAL DUTY SATISFACTORILY. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelors Degree

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Basic knowledge and experience with job related computer hardware and software applications.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
